Undoubtedly, China is in the global leading position in the first half of 5G deployment. With the completion of 5G wide area coverage nationwide, China’s telecom operators have entered the second half of 5G in advance, really achieving the well-known industry slogan “3G lags behind, 4G follows, 5G leads”. The just-past 31st China International Information and Communication Technology Exhibition (PT Expo China) can be said to be a centralized exhibition of the achievements made by the entire information and communication industry since the issuance of 5G commercial license four years ago.Among them, as one of the important participants in the field of 5G, CITES Information Technology Co., LTD. (hereinafter referred to as “CITES”) displayed its latest products and multi-scenario applications of 5G cloud small base station from multiple perspectives at this exhibition. It is estimated that more than 70% of the traffic in the 5G era will occur in indoor scenarios. How to solve the problem of indoor coverage is a very important compulsory course for operators to build 5G high-quality networks and obtain differentiated advantages. Li Nan, deputy director of the Wireless and Terminal Technology Research Institute of China Mobile Research Institute, said at an open technology forum that small base stations are an important part of 5G commercial networks. After large-scale network construction, small base stations can supplement the coverage and capacity of large networks at low cost on demand.
In fact, last August, Saites actually won the bid for the first batch of 5G small base stations from China Mobile, grabbing the second largest share. Dr. Zhao Zhuxing, chief engineer at Saites, mentioned in an interview with C114 that after signing a framework contract with China Mobile Group in November last year, they conducted pilot trials in several provinces and found that the equipment operated smoothly. Following this success, Saites began providing large-scale supply and commercial deployment for various locations like shopping malls, office buildings, hospitals, schools and factories to address the rigid construction needs of 5G indoor coverage and blind spots for mobile municipal companies.
It is understood that Situs exhibited the 5G small base station FlexEZ-RAN2600/2700 series of the winning bid at the PT exhibition, which received great attention from the audience. The series of products support the new needs of 5G networks such as open, sharing, and cloud, with large bandwidth, low energy consumption, and easy deployment, and have taken the lead in indoor coverage construction deployment in more than 10 provinces and cities across the country, including Shandong, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Hunan, Chongqing, Heilongjiang, and Liaoning.
It is worth noting that, as an important scene in the second half of 5G deployment scenarios, the indoor scene environment is complex, the coverage needs are diversified, and the high, medium and low service volume scenarios are unevenly distributed, and these differentiated needs are often unable to be well met through a single solution. However, the very big difference between 5G small base stations and 4G small base stations is that 5G small base stations are cloud-based small stations after the promotion of cloud computing technology, which can make the network more flexible and have stronger operation and maintenance capabilities.
In this regard, Dr. Zhao Zhuxing told us, “When it comes to different situations, we need to tailor the delivery accordingly. If we’re dealing with low business volume scenarios in high schools, it’s obvious that the equipment needs to meet the most demanding conditions, which means higher costs. So whether you’re an operator or a supplier, and whether you want to reduce construction or maintenance costs, different solutions are necessary for different situations.” He mentioned that Saites has developed various types of customized solutions to meet these diverse requirements. For instance, when there is medium business volume demand like in supermarkets or office buildings, the company offers 2T2R solutions. In low business volume scenarios such as underground parking lots, they use traditional DAS methods with power splitters and couplers to deploy multiple antenna heads and achieve optimal coverage cost per unit area. In multi-partition scenarios, they can adapt using either “three points” or “five points” equipment configurations. And for high business volume situations, Saites has introduced 4T4R products which have successfully passed China Mobile’s touch test in April.”
